Candidate Profile: Jay Schneiderman For Southampton Supervisor

SOUTHAMPTON, NY —Suffolk County residents will be hitting the polls next month to elect local representatives.

The race is on in local town and village races leading up to Election Day, which, this year, falls on Tuesday, November 5. Patch asked those running for office to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles in the days leading up to the election.

Jay Schneiderman, 57, of Southampton, is running for re-election as Southampton Town Supervisor.

His opponents are Alex Gregor (Libertarian, Independence) and Greg Robins (R)

Schneiderman, a Democrat who is also running on the Conservative line, has a son Ruben, 17, and a daughter, Magdalena, 20. Schneiderman has a Masters in Education from SUNY. The incumbent Southampton Town supervisor, he previously served as a Suffolk County legislator.

Patch: The single most pressing issue facing our community is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Schneiderman: Water Quality. I will fix it by removing contaminants from our drinking water and our bays.

P: What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

S: I am experienced and have a proven track record of addressing important issues like environmental protection, cost of living, and public safety.

P: Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform:

S: I work hard every day as a public servant. I have an unbroken 20 year record of not raising tax rates for the people I represent. My proposed budget for next year includes a 6% cut in the tax rate. I also achieved the top credit rating for the town.

P: What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

S: I’ve been doing it now for 4 years successfully. Plus I served in elected office prior. I’ve preserved thousands of acres of open space, widened County Road 39, cut taxes, and created housing opportunities for our workforce.

P: The best advice ever shared with me was ...

S: "Be true to yourself."

P: What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

S: I love serving our community. I consider it a great honor. I will continue to listen to community concerns and help solve problems. I I will gladly continue to serve the public, if they elect me. I work for the public interest only. All decisions are for the public benefit.
