Car, Fully Engulfed In Flames, Closes Road In Riverside: Police

No homes were impacted and no injuries were reported, police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — Firefighters raced to extinguish a car that was fully engulfed in flames in Riverside Wednesday night, police said.

According to Southampton Police, the incident took place at 7:04 p.m. on Riverleigh Avenue. The owner of a car called police to say that his vehicle smelled like gasoline and was overheating, police said. The car then burst into flames but no homes were impacted and no injuries were reported, police said.

The road was closed while the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire, police said.
