Code Enforcement Crackdown In Flanders, Riverside

One residence was being illegally used as an auto repair shop, Southampton Town officials say.

FLANDERS, NY — Southampton Town continued its effort to spotlight quality of life concerns with a code enforcement crackdown in Flanders and Riverside recently, town official said.

The second strategic code enforcement sweep by town officials, which took place on Friday in Flanders and Riverside, followed a similar operation in Hampton Bays in October.

Most recently, code enforcement officers, fire marshals and animal control officers investigated 80 properties in the Flanders/Riverside communities, issued 24 notices of violation and 4 summonses for a wide range of violations including rental permit violations, property maintenance issues, and illegal uses of residential properties, town officials said.

One illegal use involved a residence being used as an auto repair shop, town officials added.

Two related investigations are still underway.

Steven Troyd, code compliance and public safety administrator said the town has been in contact with the owners of the properties. "Our officers will be following up to assure that the properties become compliant with town code," he said.
