Southold Man, 90, Dies In County Road 94 Crash: Police

The man died after the vehicle left the road and crashed into trees, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Southold man died in a crash that closed a roadway in Northampton and Riverside on Wednesday morning, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 9:12 a.m., multiple calls came in for a vehicle off the roadway on County Road 94. The driver of a 2011 black Chrysler was heading eastbound on County Road 94 and left the roadway, overturning and crashing into trees in the median, police said.

The driver, Theresa Sweeney, 68, of Southold, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, police said. The passenger, John R. Cushen, 90, of Southold, died, police said.

Detectives are investigating the crash, and anyone with information is encouraged to call 631-702-2230. The next of kin has been notified. The roadway, which was initially closed to eastbound traffic from Pinehurst Boulevard, has been reopened.
