Driver Charged With DWI After Crash Near East End Traffic Circle: PD

The driver lost control of his vehicle and hit another car, pushing it into a cement signpost and a fence, police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — A Riverhead driver was arrested and charged after he was found intoxicated following a crash near the Riverside traffic circle Sunday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place at about 1:49 p.m. in the area of the traffic circle. Officers responded and found that Rudy R. Taperia-Cac, 18, lost control of his vehicle and struck another car, which was pushed into a cement post holding a sign, and a fence, all of which sustained damage, police said.

Taperia-Cac was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DWI and numerous traffic infractions, police said.

Both drivers were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for evaluation; no serious injuries were reported, police said.

Taperia-Cac was discharged from the hospital and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
