Driver Crashes Into Pole In Water Mill: Fire Department
Heavy rescue was needed to extricate the person, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, fire officials say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A person was trapped after a vehicle crashed into a telephone pole in Water Mill Friday, fire officials said.
According to the Southampton Fire Department, a call came in at 3:02 p.m. about the crash, which took place at the intersection of Scuttle Hole Road and Cooks Lane.
The Bridgehampton Fire Department heavy rescue, while en route, became disabled and requested mutual aid from the Southampton Fire Department, officials said. The first Southampton Fire Department responder reported that the person was trapped in an Audi A5, officials said. Heavy rescue units from the Southampton Fire Department arrived and worked quickly to extricate the person to a Bridgehampton Fire Department ambulance, officials said.

Bridgehampton Fire Department Chief Nick Hemby was in charge of first responders from his department; Chief Alfred Callahan was in charge at the scene for the Southampton Fire Department.
The person sustained non-life-threatening injuries, fire department officials said.

Additional manpower was requested from the North Sea Fire Department; heavy rescue units were at the scene for about 45 minutes and the Southampton Fire Department chiefs and fire police also assisted with road closures, officials said.
"A great job was. done by all — and many forget the unsung heroes, the dispatch unit. The Southampton Village Police dispatch unit did an amazing job," the Southampton Fire Department said.
