Drug Take-Back Hosted By Southampton Town Police Saturday

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Once again, Southampton Town police will participate in an effort to remove harmful drugs from homes in the community.

"Operation Medicine Cabinet," which takes place on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will give residents across town a chance to safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

The goal is to keep the medications out of the hands of young people and also to be sure they are disposed of in a way that doesn't impact the aquifer, after being improperly flushed down the toilet.

Drugs can be dropped off at the Southampton Town police substation, located at Brideghampton Commons, 2044 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, NY 11932.

They can also be disposed of at the Hampton Bays Community Center, 25 Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays, NY 11946, or at the Flanders Community Center, located at 655 Flanders Road, Flanders, NY 11901.

Items accepted include over-the-counter medications; prescription medications; medications for household pets; and medicated lotions or ointments. Items not accepted include needles or other "sharps"; thermometers; business or professional waste; and liquid medication.

The event is sponsored by the Southampton Town Police Department and the Southampton Youth Bureau.
