Drunk Driver Crashes Into Tree: Police

NORTH SEA, NY — A Sag Harbor man was arrested Tuesday after he drove drunk and crashed into a tree, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Geoffrey M. Briggs, 27, was arrested at 9:35 p.m. near the intersection of Millstone Brook Road in North Sea after he was involved in a single car crash where he left the road and hit the tree.

Upon police arrival it was learned that Briggs was intoxicated; he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and failing to maintain lane, a violation, police said.

Briggs was transported to the Southampton Town Police Headquarters for arrest processing and held for morning arraignment, police said.
