Famous Bouwerie Mansion in Southampton Village Demolished

A new modern mansion will be built in its place.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY - The famous Bouwerie mansion in Southampton Village, originally built in 1930 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986, was recently demolished in order to build a new modern home on the 6.2 acre property, according to a report in 27east.

The village’s historic consultant, Architectural Review Board and building inspector all approved the demolition permit back in July for the home, which is currently owned by 1280 Meadow Lane LLC, who purchased the estate in 2011 for over $25 million, 27east reports.

The estate had been “perched seaward of the coastal erosion hazard line, right up against the dune, which had inched its way toward the structure over the years,” Jon Foster, Southampton Village building inspector told 27east.
