Fire Breaks Out In Former Flanders Market
The building was vacant and the fire was quickly extinguished Thursday afternoon.
FLANDERS, NY — A fire broke out in Flanders Thursday afternoon at the location of the former Bayview Market, officials said.
According to the Flanders Fire Department, the fire broke out just after 3 p.m. at the vacant building, located at the intersection of Flanders Road and Longneck Boulevard.
The Flanders, Riverhead, Hampton Bays Fire Departments and East Quogue Fire Department responded, said Bob Burden, who was at the scene.

Although the fire reportedly broke out in a walk in cooler in the back of the building, the fire department could not immediately confirm that information.

Firefighters were able contain and quickly extinguish the flames, Burden said. "It was an excellent job by all personnel on scene, especially considering the very hot — near 90 degree — and humid weather outside," Burden said.
No injuries were immediately reported.
