Gary Cooper Film Festival at Southampton Playhouse
His daughter, Maria Cooper Janis (age 88), is attending and speaking about her dad and his love of Southampton.

May 7 is officially Gary Cooper Day in Southampton. Part of the festivities will be a presentation of one of his classic movies, HIGH NOON, at the Southampton Playhouse in the village.
In partnership with the Southampton Playhouse, and as part of Southampton Village’s ongoing commitment to honoring the people and stories that have shaped its rich cultural history, Southampton Mayor William Manger Jr. has declared May 7, (Gary Cooper’s birthday,) as Gary Cooper Day. The Southampton Playhouse will cement Cooper’s legacy and East End ties with an inaugural paver at the Playhouse. The inaugural Gary Cooper Day also features a free community screening of HIGH NOON, for which Cooper won his second Academy Award in 1952.
Eric Kuhn, the Southampton Playhouse artistic director, has been presiding over the second annual Gary Cooper film festival at the Playhouse.

Also at the Playhouse is Gary Cooper’s daughter, Maria Cooper Janis, who is celebrating her father‘s legacy by attending the festival and speaking to the audiences.
