Harborfrost, Sag Harbor's Ice Sculpture, Fireworks Spectacular Returns

SAG HARBOR, NY ± A beloved annual winter tradition, HarborFrost, returns this Saturday in Sag Harbor.

"HarborFrost is a celebration of winter in Sag Harbor highlighting two extreme elements—fire and ice," the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce said.

The event features live ice carving demonstrations, ice sculptures along Main Street, live music performances and indoor children’s activities. The festivities culminate with the fireworks by Grucci display off the end of Long Wharf.

Expedition Documentaries/ Sag Harbor Cinema

The Sag Harbor Cinema will play a medley of documentary footage, captured during famous expeditions to the Poles and Terra Nova, on the building’s street vitrines and third-floor staircase — such as Roald Admusen’s trips to the South Pole in 1910 to 1912 and in 1925. Also, Ernest Shackleton and “The Endurance Expedition” (1914) and “The Great White Silence” (1924), a film on Robert Falcon Scott’s attempt to reach the South Pole.

Ice Sculpture Spotting Contest

There are more than 20 ice sculptures all around the business district. People are invited to take photos of every ice sculpture they find, post to social media and use the hashtag #harborfrost2023 tag @sagharborchamberofcommerce (required).

Also tag the business whose ice sculpture it is (when possible). The winner(s) will be chosen randomly from whomever gets the most done and follows all the rules and has it all submitted before the end of the weekend. Prizes will be based on age of winners and include some Sag Harbor Chamber swag and more.

StoryWalk Trail Hike/ Mashashimuet Park and Long Pond Greenbelt

Join the Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt for a fun walk for kids of all ages along the StoryWalk Trail in Sag Harbor (approx. 30 minutes). The more adventurous can continue on for another half hour to see Long Pond and learn about the amazing Long Pond Greenbelt. Meet at 10 a.m. at the bleachers at Mashashimuet Park on the corner of Main Street and Jermain Avenue in Sag Harbor. Leader: Dai Dayton, 631-745-0689.

Noon to 4 p.m.

Culinary Stroll/Starting at Il Capuccino

Sample some of Sag Harbor’s finest foods on this casual stroll through the village sponsored by the Sag Harbor Hysterical Society. The tour starts at Il Capuccino at noon with stops along the way at Lulu Kitchen & Bar, Page at 63 Main and K Pasa. $50 includes dining specialties at each stop. Cash bar. The tour ends with plenty of time for guests to make their way to Long Wharf for the fireworks. Prizes for the best decorated chef’s hat. Stop into The Wharf Shop at 69 Main Street for a Valentine’s card-making craft with the little ones.

Live Music With Brad Penuel/Kidd Squid Brewing Company

Enjoy live music with half the band Hopefully Forgiven, as Americana singer and guitarist Brad Penuel performs at Sag Harbor’s newest brewery, Kidd Squid Brewing, located at 11 Spring Street.

2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Frosty Face Bling/Stella & Ruby

Bring the children to Stella and Ruby, 144 Main Street, and get out of the cold for some frosty face bling before the fireworks.

Ice Breaker Sailing Regatta

Breakwater Yacht Club

Ice Carving by Ice Melodies/Long Wharf

The Long-Island based ice carving company Ice Melodies returns to HarborFrost to carve beautiful ice sculptures on Long Wharf. Master carver Richard Daly is a national award-winning ice carving artist and creates a unique and personal experience. This year, organizers are embracing a nautical theme. In addition, look for smaller ice sculptures throughout the business district which carry through the same theme.

3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Live Music With Daniel Lerner/Dragon Hemp

Dragon Hemp Apothecary, at 108 Main Street with host the indie, pop and folk artist and songwriter Daniel Lerner, who has been inspired by the styles of Elliot Smith, Wilco and Lomelda.

3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Hamptons Raclette and Sagaponack Distillery Pop-Ups/Kidd Squid Brewing Company

Head on down to Kidd Squid at 11 Spring Street for a tasting of melted cheese from Hampton Raclette, and bourbon pop-up from Sagaponack Distillery.

4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Live Music With Telly Karoussos/Green Room Bar @Sag Harbor Cinema

Singer-songwriter and solo acoustic guitarist Telly Karoussos, the other half of Hopefully Forgiven, takes the stage in the hour before the fireworks at The Green Room Bar on the third floor of the Sag Harbor Cinema, 90 Main Street.

5:15 p.m.

Fire Dancing by Keith Leaf and His Flaming Friends/Long Wharf

As the sun begins to set, Keith Leaf and His Flaming Friends will perform their show at Windmill Beach near Long Wharf. "Each year they bring heat to HarborFrost, always offering and awe-inspiring and unforgettable show," organizers said.

5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Hot Soups and Live Music/Old Whalers’ Church

Come in from the cold for a warm whalers’ welcome! Hot soups and live music at Old Whalers’ Church, 44 Union Street. $10 soup, bread, beverage and dessert. Take out available.

World-Famous Fireworks by Grucci/Long Wharf

Fireworks by Grucci on Saturday, February 4 at 5:45 p.m. from Long Wharf, are co-sponsored by Propane Depot and The Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce

Return to A Place By the Sea/The Church

Join The Church for an opening reception of its new exhibition, Return to A Place By the Sea, which features the work of Nanette Carter, Gregory Coates, Al Loving, and Frank Wimberley — four African-American abstract painters who have all lived in Sag Harbor at some point
