History Made At Southampton Fire Department As Women Earn Top Awards
It was the first time that both the "Officer of the Year" and "Firefighter of the Year" awards went to dedicated women in the department.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Hometown heroes were honored when the Southampton Fire Department held its annual banquet — and history was made as the top two honors were awarded to women for the first time.
The event was held on June 3. "It was an amazing night," Southampton Fire Department Ex-Chief and Public Information Officer Chris Brenner said.
The awards were for the year 2022. Ex-Chief Alfred Callahan and current Chiefs Manny Escobar, Polis Walker and Richard Fowler handed out the coveted awards, Brenner said.

Officer of the Year was awarded to Agawam Hose Company Captain Tara Collins.
"Tara is a 12-year member of the department who is always there to serve her department," Brenner said. "She has made over 900 calls over her two years as captain."

The Firefighter of the Year award went to Southampton Hook and Ladder member Kelly Gang.
"Kelly is an 18-year member of the department," Brenner said. "Kelly is one of the first to the firehouse when the tones drop to drive the rescue truck or the new ladder truck unit 7-3-16. She is always there when the department or her company requests help. Kelly is a true asset."
History was made in the Southampton Fire Department in 2022 when both the Firefighter of the Year and Officer of the Year awards went to female firefighters, Brenner added.. "An amazing accomplishment for both women."
