Holiday Celebration At Historic Sag Harbor Home, Listed At $18.7M

SAG HARBOR, NY — Holiday spirit was in the air as Sag Harbor's Richard Demato opened his historic home for a festive celebration recently.

Local historians and the Pierson High School chorus, who provided delightful holiday music, were onhand for the event, which took at the home, located at 238 Main Street in Sag Harbor.

Hamptons Chef Karl Mcdermott prepared some delicious appetizers, both salmon and filet.

Tours of the 1833 historic Nathan P. Howell home, which is listed with Brown Harris Stevens for $18.75 million, were given by listing agents Jane Babcook, Mark Baron and Eve Gianni; the iconic residence is located on renowned Captain's Row in Sag Harbor.

After purchasing the home Demato added an additional updated modern renovation without changing the historic look of the home.

According to the listing, "The historic Nathan P. Howell house is the largest property on renowned Captain's Row and a rare example of period architecture, impeccably renovated to the highest level with original details including the double-hung sash windows, shutters, acanthus leaves and moldings, expert craftsmanship, fine millwork and trim, antique wide plank floors, and marble mantles."

Built in 1833, the 19th century estate represents Sag Harbor's most elaborate Greek Revival architecture; the home was expanded and remodeled in the Italianate style in 1850, the listing says.

The main residence offers more than 10,000 square feet of living space on 4 levels with 7 bedrooms, 8 full and one half baths, the listing says; arched entries lead along gracious hallways to grand light-filled parlors with 10-1/2 ft. ceilings.

"This stylish landmark home also features a superbly appointed epicurean kitchen, 9 fireplaces, 2 staircases, an elevator and a cupola.
