Homeless Man Stabbed Multiple Times On LI: Police

The man, who had been stabbed many times, entered a gas station and asked for help, police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — A homeless man was stabbed multiple times in Riverside Wednesday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, a call came in at 3:46 p.m. regarding a man with multiple stab wounds.

Daniel Hughes, 39, who is undomiciled, entered the 76 Gas Station, located on Lake Avenue in Riverside, asking for help and requesting police, authorities said.

He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment by Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said.

Southampton police patrol units, community response units, the detective division and Southampton Village Police's K9 unit responded to try and locate the perpetrator and interview bystanders, police said.

Hughes was "uncooperative" with detectives who were attempting to identify the person responsible for his injuries and people who were with Hughes also refused to assist detectives with the investigation, police said.
