Hot New York Restaurant to Open in Southampton

Jue Lan Club will feature art — including a never-before-seen Keith Haring —style, fine dining and celebrities, owners say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY - One of New York City's hottest dining destinations will be opening in Southampton this summer.

The Jue Lan Club, New York’s "best new modern Chinese culinary destination", will be heading to Southampton this summer, according to a release, and will open at 268 Elm Street.

Named after the Jue Lan Society, a secret Chinese art club from the 1930s, the "Jue Lan Club has quickly become synonymous with art, style, fine dining and a celebrity clientele and will bring its artistic vision, exclusive nightlife scene and culinary expertise to Long Island’s East End," a release said.

Officially opening Memorial Day Weekend, Jue Lan Club Southampton is the second outpost from restaurateur Stratis Morfogen and partners shampoo magnate Alex Amanao and Richie Romero, who launched Jue Lan Club in Manhattan six months ago.

The space will offer signature Asian dishes and a nightclub, The Barn @ Jue Lan Club, set in an artistic ambiance.

“As a resident of Southampton, opening Jue Lan Club in the Hamptons was always part of my vision for the brand and the former Savanah space is perfect for the outpost,” said Stratis Morfogen, owner of Jue Lan Club. “Our upscale fare coupled with vibe dining perfectly complements the East End’s residents and vacationers. Plus, our nightlife programing will fill a void in the Hamptons hospitality scene.”

Jue Lan Club Southampton will serve signatture dishes that have become staples of the flagship, including Drunken Sea Bass, Braised Oxtail Bao Buns, Shrimp Crystal Dumplings and Chicken Satay.

The 6,000 square foot space will feature 600 tables and a unique art gallery exhibition in The Barn, curated by Emerald and Adrian Gruin, founders of Gruin NYC.

The exhibition will highlight work from artists Mint & Serf, Marcia Resnick, Greg Haberny and Anthony Haden-Guest. The gallery will also feature a never shown before Keith Haring.

The graffti-inspired and gritty downtown works aim to reflect the energy of downtown New York. These contemporary works are juxtaposed with gelatin printed vintage photographs by Marcia Resnick, featuring frequenters of Peter Gatien's Limelight and punk rockers from the 80s resulting in an interesting contrast to the Southampton fresh and airy barn feel.

In December 2015, Stratis Morfogen, and his partners, opened Jue Lan Club in New York, offering a menu of fine Chinese cuisine with a modern twist served in a bi-level restaurant, located within the historic church that once housed the Limelight nightclub.

Rooms include the main Limelight Dining Room, Warhol Room, Forbidden Room — Peter Gatien’s former office — Grafitti Alley and the al fresco Imperial Garden.

Paying homage to the Jue Lan Society, the flagship Jue Lan Club features a rotating gallery of artists, such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Domingo Zapata.

Jue Lan Club Southampton will be open Wednesday to Monday from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m., open for dim sum brunch Saturday and Sunday from 11a.m. to 5 p.m., and The Barn @ Jue Lan Club nightclub will be open Thursday to Saturday from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
