SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Students learned a lesson in giving back recently when they helped to feed the hungry in the Hamptons.

Southampton Elementary School Student Council members delivered boxes and bags of food they had collected to the nonprofit organization Heart of the Hamptons on April 10, the school district said.

The food was donated as part of the student council’s March community service project; they asked their peers to donate nonperishable food items.

In addition to delivering the food, the student council members assisted in sorting and stocking the shelves of the food pantry and were given a tour of the facility.

“It was a great experience for all,” said student council co-adviser Lisa Carew.
