LONG ISLAND, NY — Local and state officials are taking steps to keep the public safe after the U.S. and Israel launched an attack on Iran Saturday.

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, on X, said: "Following the U.S. military operations in Iran overnight," New York State Police "are increasing their presence statewide at religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites with our local partners. While there are no credible threats at this time, our top priority is keeping New Yorkers safe."

The U.S. and Israel launched a major attack on Iran on Saturday, and President Donald Trump called on the Iranian public to “seize control of your destiny” by rising against the Islamic leadership that has ruled the nation since 1979. Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones toward Israel and U.S. military bases in the region, the Associated Press said.
