LI Man Caught Mid-Burglary On Home Surveillance Camera: Police

The man, arrested in North Sea, was also wanted on a warrant out of Southold, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A man was caught burglarizing a North Sea home Friday on home surveillance system, police said.

Southampton Town police said a 911 call came in at 12:43 p.m. from a homeowner who said they could see a man inside their house from their Ring video camera.

Southampton Town officers responded and requested assistance from Southampton Village Police K-9 and Suffolk Police Department aviation to track down the man, who had fled the home prior to police arrival, police said. While canvassing the area, Southampton Village K-9 located a man matching the description given by the homeowner, police said.

Douglas Ramirez-Bonilla, 27, of Southampton, was arrested and charged second-degree burglary, a felony, police said.

He was held overnight and arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court in the morning, where he was released on his own recognizance, police said. He was subsequently turned over to Southold Town police in reference to an active bench warrant out of that jurisdiction, police said.
