LI Man Charged With DWI, Trying To Hurt An Officer: Police

He sprained an officer's fingers and fractured his wrist, police say.

NOYAC, NY — A Sag Harbor man was arrested Thursday after he was found driving while intoxicated and attempted to hurt an officer, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 9 p.m., David Knibb, 51, was arrested and charged with DWI, resisting arrest, and second-degree assault with intent to cause injury to an officer, a felony.

Knibb was seen parked in his vehicle on Long Beach Road near Noyack Road, slumped over the driver’s side open window and asleep, police said. During the investigation it was determined that Knibb was intoxicated, police said

He refused to get out of the vehicle or cooperate in any way with the officers, police said. Knibb had to be removed from his vehicle; he then grabbed and twisted one of the officer's fingers, causing sprained fingers and a fractured wrist, police said.

He was taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing and held for a morning arraignment, police said.
