Man Arrested After Stealing Dog Worth $5K From Hamptons Home: Police

The dog was found and returned to its family, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Quogue man was arrested and charged after he stole a dog valued at $5,000 from a Southampton Village home, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, Kevin D. Richards, 56, was arrested at his home Monday and charged with third-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies.

Richards stole the dog, half Shih Tzu and half Bernedoodle, from a home on Meadow Lane around October 23, police said.

Police recovered the dog and returned the animal to its rightful owner, authorities said.

ichards was released on a desk appearance ticket, and is scheduled to appear for arraignment on November 29 at 9 a.m. at the Southampton Village Justice Court.
