Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Stop Sign In Hamptons: PD

He also crashed into a fence, police say.

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into a fence and stop sign in Bridgehampton Tuesday, Southampton Town police said.

Roberto Bergaraparra, 24, was arrested at 6:45 p.m. and charged with misdemeanor DWI as well as several traffic violations, police said. Police said they received a call regarding an "erratic" driver, reported to be "driving all over the roadway."

The vehicle was located and Bergaraparra was stopped but sped off while police were approaching his vehicle, police said. His vehicle was again located on Millstone Road and Noyac Road, where he collided with the fence and stop sign, police said.

Bergaraparra was taken to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing and was held to appear in Southampton Town justice court for morning arraignment, police said.
