Man Charged With DWI After Northampton Crash: Police

He fled from the scene, police say.

NORTHAMPTON, NY — A Riverside man was arrested Thursday night after driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 7:43 p.m. on County Road 51 just south of Speonk Riverhead Road; one of the drivers involved in the crash left the scene without reporting, authorities added.

A short while later the driver, Byron Sinchi-Zamora, 26, was located and was found to have been driving while intoxicated, police said.

Sinchi-Zamora was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for arrest processing; he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor DWI; leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, a violation; and an additional violation of vehicle and traffic law, police said.

He was held overnight to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.
