Man Charged With DWI After Southampton Crash: Police

He careened into the woods, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Texas man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a Southampton crash Thursday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the single-car crash took place at about 8:56 p.m. on Montauk Highway and West Gate Road. Jonathan Micah Joplin, 39, of Cedar Hill, TX, veered off the road and careened about 50 feet into a wooded area, police said.

No injuries were reported, police said.

Joplin was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, and several traffic infractions, police said. He was transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
