Man Charged With DWI, Cocaine Possession After Southampton Crash: PD

The rollover crash took place Sunday night, police say.

SHINNECOCK HILLS, NY — An East Quogue man was arrested after a single-car crash in Shinnecock Hills Sunday night, after which he was found to be intoxicated and in possession of cocaine, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place at about 9 p.m. at Montauk Highway and Sugar Loaf Road in Shinnecock Hills. Upon arrival, officers found a 2012 Volvo which had run off the roadway and then overturned, police said.

The driver, Brendan C. Hennessey, 31, was uninjured in the crash, but investigation revealed that he was intoxicated, police said.

Hennessey was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing; he was charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, and moving from lane unsafely, a violation, police said.

In addition, Hennessey was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after he was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine, police said.

He was held overnight for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.
