Man Charged With Felony DWI Tried To Flee: Police
The Hampton Bays man was arrested Friday night in Southampton, police say.
SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Hampton Bays man was charged with driving while intoxicated after trying to flee a police officer Friday night, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, Edisson Garcia-Matute, 24, was arrested at 8:02 p.m. after he was seen driving west and improperly passing vehicles on Montauk Highway in Southampton.
When police attempted a traffic stop, Garcia-Matute attempted to flee before complying and pulling over, authorities said.

He was found to be intoxicated, arrested, and charged with DWI, a felony, due to a prior conviction within 10 years; misdemeanor DWI; unlawful fleeing a police officer, a misdemeanor; reckless driving, a misdemeanor; and improper passing on right, disobeying a traffic device, and unsafe turn/fail to signal, all violations, police said.
He was taken to Southampton Town police headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.
