Man Charged With Felony DWI Tries To Run Into Woods, Escape Police: PD
The Shirley man was arrested Sunday in Riverside, police say.
RIVERSIDE, NY — A Shirley man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after trying to flee into the Riverside woods to escape police, authorities said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place on Sunday at about 9:07 p.m.; officers stopped a motor vehicle and, when the vehicle pulled over, the driver fled on foot into a wooded area off Speonk-Riverhead Road, police said.
The driver was located a short time later by a police K-9, officials said.

Upon further investigation the driver of the vehicle, Darvin Ruiz Ramos, 27, was found to have operated the vehicle in an intoxicated condition, police said.
Ruiz Ramos was placed under arrest and brought to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing; he was held for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.

Ruiz Ramos was charged with felony DWI, prior conviction within 10 years, misdemeanor reckless driving, and traffic violations, police said.
