Man Dies In Northampton House Fire

Police arrived within minutes but were unable to breech the door as the home was fully engulfed in flames, authorities say.

NORTHAMPTON, NY — A man died in a fire that ripped through a Northampton home early Tuesday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, at 12:44 a.m., a 911 call came in about the blaze at the home located on Wildwood Trail. Police arrived within minutes but were unable to breech the door as the home was fully engulfed in flames, authorities said.

The fire was extinguished by the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department — and the man's body was discovered within the residence, police said.

The Southampton Police Department's detective division, with help from the Southampton Town fire marshals and the Suffolk County Police Department's arson unit, investigated.

The man's body was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office for confirmation of identification, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the fire was non-criminal in nature; anyone with information is requested to contact Southampton Town police detectives at 631-702-2230.
