Man Drowns At Beach In Hamptons: Police

The drowning was the third time in a week that authorities were called to the beach for swimmers in distress, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A man drowned at Cooopers Beach in Southampton recently, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 12:31 p.m., a 911 call was received about two swimmers in distress in the ocean off Coopers Beach.

A female swimmer did manage to get back to the beach, but a man was unable to do so, police said.

A group of beachgoers entered the ocean to pull the man, Timothy Allen Osborne, 46, of Singapore, from the water, and police commenced CPR; he was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:21 p.m., police said.

The incident was the third time that week that Southampton Village Police received 911 calls regarding swimmers in distress at local beaches, police said.

Earlier that week, Southampton Village Police Officer James Moore entered the waters at Coopers Beach to save another male swimmer in distress, police said.

Police are asking anyone entering the waters to proceed with caution due to recent storm activities, authorities said.
