Man Nabbed With Heroin After Hamptons Rollover Crash: Cops

He was found walking away from the scene of the crash, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Port Jefferson man was caught with heroin after being involved in a rollover crash in Southampton, police said.

According to Southampton Village Police, Adam J. Wani, 29, was arrested on Nov. 20 at 8:01 p.m. and charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, both misdemeanors.

Southampton Village Police received a call at 6:46 p.m. regarding a vehicle rollover at the intersection of Halsey Lane and Hill Street, police said.

Upon arrival, police found a 2017 Toyota Corolla on its side in a driveway on Hill Street., police said. Wani, the driver, was found walking north on Halsey Street with minor injuries, police said.

Upon further investigation, police determined that speed and Wani's failure to stop at the stop sign at the corner of Halsey Street and Hill Street were contributing factors in the crash; he was later found to be in possession of heroin, police said.
