Man Points Handgun At Fellow Employee At Southampton Business: Police

He was not authorized to have the weapon at work, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested after pointing a gun at a fellow employee at their Southampton place of business, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place Saturday at about 3:46 p.m.; two employees at the business were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated when one of the employees displayed a handgun and pointed it at the second employee, police said.

Southampton Town police patrol officers and detectives responded to the location and took possession of the handgun, police said.

The investigation revealed that during the verbal dispute one employee produced a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at a second employee, police said.

The employee that had possession of the handgun, Benjamin Alvarez, 27, had a valid New York State license to carry the weapon, but his place of employment was restricted and he was not authorized to possess it there, police said.

Alvarez was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and criminal possession of a weapon in a restricted location, a felony, police said. He was processed at Southampton Town police headquarters and released on a field appearance ticket for arraignment at a later date, police said.
