Man Threatens Clerk With What Looks Like Firearm In Robbery: Cops

He threatened the deli clerk with what appeared to be a firearm, police say.

RIVERSIDE, NY — A Riverside man was charged with robbing a deli with what appeared to be a weapon on Thursday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, on Thursday, detectives arrested Jose Escalante-Chacon, 26, of Riverside. Escalante-Chacon entered Marta’s Deli in Riverside and threatened the clerk and displayed what appeared to be a firearm, police said.

Escalante-Chacon fled the scene and was located by New York State Police a short time later, police said. He was turned over to Southampton Town Police where he was identified and transported to headquarters for processing, police said.

Escalante-Chacon was arrested and charged with first degree robbery, a felony, and second degree menacing, a misdemeanor, police said.

Eschalante-Chacon was held overnight for morning arraignment, police said.
