Man Tried To Scam LI Grandma Out Of $12K: Police

He's facing a felony charge, police say.

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A man was arrested after he tried to steal $12,000 from a Bridgehampton grandmother in a phone scam, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place on Wednesday when a report came in about a phone scam in progress.

The woman reported that a man on the phone had pretended to be her grandson and requested $12,000 cash, in order to be bailed out of jail, police said. She was able to confirm her grandson was not in any trouble and she contacted police, authorities said.

Detectives, with the help of the Community Response Unit, conducted an immediate investigation and were able to identify and arrest Odell K. Hall, 33, of Roosevelt, NY, police said.

Hall was arrested and charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny, a felony, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor, and held for morning arraignment, police said.
