Man's Fingers Severed In Shredder: Police

Police were able to recover the man's severed fingers and bring them to the hospital, where they were reattached, officials say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Police came to the rescue of a man in Riverhead who got his glove caught in a shredder severing his fingers, authorities said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 8:16 a.m. on Wednesday on W. Main Street in Riverhead, when a man suffered a traumatic hand injury.

The man was trying to remove a block of ice that was lodged in a shredder and his glove was caught in the spinner, pulling his hand and severing several fingers, police said.

Southampton Town Police Officer John Kuey was able to recover the severed fingers and transported them to Peconic Bay Medical Center for reattachment, police said.

Southampton Town Police's detective division is investigating and asks anyone with information on the case to contact them at 631-702- 2230.
