WATER MILL, NY — Firefighters were called to the scene of a large house fire in Water Mill Friday night.

According to Chris Brenner, Southampton Fire Department public information officer, at 6:17 p.m., a North Sea fire chief was driving past a residence on Head of Pond Road when he saw smoke and flames coming from the home; he immediately called in the fire.

The Southampton Fire Department was activated, and Southampton Fire Chief Alfred Callahan called for mutual aid from the North Sea Fire Department, which brought a pumper to the scene, Brenner said. The Sag Harbor Fire Department brought a rapid intervention team and the Bridgehampton Fire Department was on standby for the Southampton Fire Department, Brenner said.

Chief Callahan thanked all the agencies that assisted with the fire. "It was great teamwork by all," officials said.
