Man Armed With Knife Shot, Killed By Southampton Police Officers: PD

NORTHAMPTON, NY — A man armed with a knife was shot and killed by Southampton Town police officers in Northampton Sunday, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place on Topping Drive at about 2:40 p.m.

The officers were responding to a call of an "escalating violent domestic situation," police said.

A woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said. Three Southampton Town police officers were treated and released at a local hospital, authorities said.

Detectives from the New York State Attorney General’s Office responded, police said.

The incident sparked a massive police presence to the area, with a section of the roadway roped off, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, at 2:43 p.m. on Mother's Day, a call came in from a resident regarding the domestic situation.

Patrol units were dispatched to the residence in the area of Topping Drive in Northampton, police said. Officers secured the scene and an investigation was ongoing with Suffolk County Police Department, police said.

"There is currently no danger to the community," police said Sunday afternoon.
