Missing Kayaker In Hamptons Never Found: Police

Police continue to search periodically for the kayaker who went missing in October, officials say.

NORTH HAVEN, NY — A kayaker from Queens who never returned after heading out to fish on Sag Harbor Bay on October 19 remains missing, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Dario Cholula-Rojas, 31, of Queens, was reported missing out of North Haven. Cholula-Rojas, who had been staying at a residence along Ferry Road, entered into Sag Harbor Bay just south of Tyndal Point in a red kayak at around 9 p.m. that Wednesday to go fishing, police said.

"We continue to go out periodically to search," said Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph.

On October 20, it was discovered that Dario had never returned, police said. The red kayak that Dario had been using was located about 1000 feet south of the residence he'd launched from and was partially overturned in the water with a fishing pole inside, police said.

Cholula-Rojas is described as a Hispanic male, about 5-feet, 6-inches, tall and weighing 160 lbs., with black hair, and brown eyes; he was wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a black sweatshirt, police said.

Marine patrols from the Southampton, Sag Harbor, and Shelter Island Police Departments continued the search after Cholula-Rojas went missing, police said.
