Missing Swimmer Found Dead In Southampton Pond: Police
The Brooklyn man was seen going under the water Saturday but did not resurface, police say.
SOUTHAMPTON, NY – A missing swimmer was found dead in a Southampton pond Sunday morning, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, the search resumed Sunday for a man who had been seen going under the water at Big Fresh Pond Saturday and not resurfacing. At 10:05 a.m., Vidal Martinez-Romero, 48, of Brooklyn, was recovered from the water deceased, police said.
Detectives, the dive team, bay constables, East Hampton Town Police and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office participated in the search, police said.

The investigation is ongoing but does not appear criminal in nature, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, on Saturday at 7:51 p.m., a call came in about a man who appeared to be "in distress" while swimming in the pond, near Elliston Park in North Sea.

Patrol units, as well as members of the detective division, community response unit, bay constables, dive team, drone unit, Suffolk County Sheriffs, and members of the Hampton Bays, North Sea, East Hampton, and Sag Harbor Fire Departments responded Saturday night.
