SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A family in Maryland was reunited with a missing relative this week, thanks to caring Southampton Town police officers.

According to police, on Wednesday at about 9:17 a.m., Southampton Town Police Officer DiGregorio was on patrol and monitoring a license plate reader system when he was alerted to a vehicle traveling through town that was listed in the system as a missing person from Maryland.

Officer DiGregorio contacted family members of the reported missing person to confirm that their family member was still missing and to gather further information, police said.

Family members reported that she had been missing for a few days and did not know why she would be in New York, police said. Officer DiGregorio relayed the information to other patrol units working at the time, police said.

Officers Mendola and J. Spaulding were able to locate the vehicle on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton a short time later, with the missing person operating the vehicle, police said. She was in good physical health and transported to the Southampton Town Senior Center in Hampton Bays, where she was reunited with family members, police said.
