New Affordable Housing Lottery Kicks Off In Hamptons

Do you think owning an affordable home in the Hamptons is an impossible dream? Here's how you can apply for a lottery.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The dream of owning an affordable home in the Hamptons might soon become a reality for some lucky lottery winners.

Southampton Town is kicking off a new workforce housing lottery, and qualified first time homebuyers are being encouraged to enter, the town said.

Applications must be submitted to the Long Island Housing Partnership by Feb. 28, a release said.

The lottery is for two newly constructed three bedroom, two bath homes in Tuckahoe Woods that will sell for $332,400 each, town officials said.

The homes are located on Moses Lane and Magee Street and were built through the work of the Southampton Business Alliance Housing Initiative Corporation and the Southampton Business Alliance; the Town of Southampton donated the land, town officials said.

Here's how to enter:

Qualified buyers must be within the 2017 to 2018 income levels established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Those guidelines are as follows:

- Income limitations apply according to the size of household and may not exceed the following guidelines.

Household Size/Maximum Income

1- $93,050

2- $106,350

3- $119,650

4- $132,950

5- $143,600

6- $154,250

7- $164,850

8- $175,500

Applications must be submitted with a non-refundable $50 application fee. Checks should be made payable and delivered to the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc., 180 Oser Avenue, Suite 800, Hauppauge, NY, 11788, Attention: Tuckahoe Woods Affordable Housing Program.

Applicants meeting requirements will be entered into a lottery and will then be required to complete a formal application for income and employment and credit information. Applicants must also attend mortgage counseling with the Long Island Housing Partnership, a certified HUD counseling agency, and qualify to obtain a mortgage, officials said.

Only those who have not owned a home, property or shares of a home or property during the past three years are eligible for the program.

The lottery will be held March 15 at 2 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall.
