“The district is pleased to welcome Dr. Kenter to Sag Harbor Schools,” said Superintendent of Schools Katy Graves. “With the loss of Jennifer Buscemi, with all her expertise and knowledge around the district, I had so many concerns about replacing her, but I really feel the district has had a tremendous win in Philip Kenter’s decision to apply here at Sag Harbor Schools.”
Prior to signing a 4-year contract with Sag Harbor, Dr. Kenter served as a tenured school business official in the Tuckahoe Common School District, school officials said.

Dr. Kenter, in his previous post, which he'd held since 2014, worked on a number of key capital projects in addition to managing the finances of the district.
Dr. Kenter, Sag Harbor district officials said, also previously worked as an assistant superintendent for finance and administrative services in the Kings Park Central School District, the director of operations and assistant business official in the Miller Place School District, as a business manager in the Bridgehampton School District, and and as a part-time claims auditor in the Shelter Island Union Free School District.
Dr. Kenter, who lives in Riverhead, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business and his Master of Professional Science in public service from Long Island University. His Master of Business Administration degree, with an emphasis on finance and management, and doctorate in educational administration were earned at Dowling College, a release said.
Scouting also plays an important role in Dr. Kenter's life: An Eagle Scout, he serves as Scoutmaster with his son's Boy Scout Troop 94; he is also a volunteer firefighter with the Riverhead Fire Department.
He has been married for more than 30 years.
“I am very excited to join the Sag Harbor School District. I am looking forward to working with the superintendent and the entire team, as well as the community,” Dr. Kenter said.
