New 'Convivial Bistro' Opens In Sag Harbor

Lulu Kitchen & Bar will feature woodburning cuisine.

SAG HARBOR, NY — A new eatery is opening its doors in Sag Harbor next week, just in time for the new season to unfold — and it's going to be a presence right in the heart of the village.

Montauk Asset Holdings, owned by Apollo Global Management co-founder Marc Rowan, has announced the newest addition to its restaurant group, Lulu Kitchen & Bar in Sag Harbor, located at 126 Main Street.

MAH, a release said, is a new hospitality group with a small collection of restaurants in Montauk including Duryea’s Lobster Deck and Arbor and, most recently, Lulu Kitchen & Bar.

Located at the site of the former Doppio Artisan Bistro on Main Street, Lulu Kitchen & Bar will be a year-round "convivial bistro featuring woodburning cuisine," with a menu and open kitchen centered around a woodburning grill and oven, the release said.

The 1,800 square foot space will offer casual lounge-like dining in the front with a view of Main Street through its French doors; leather chairs and banquettes with wood tables will offer various seating options while a large zinc topped bar will anchor the front section.

The centerpiece of the restaurant, owners say, is the open kitchen anchored by the woodburning grill and oven, from which the majority of the menu will be executed.

The rear of the space will offer dining with rustic chandeliers, exposed brick walls, vintage European mirrors, and leather chairs. A back deck will feature outdoor dining under an awning "with chic but casual patio seating and potted plants for ambiance," the release said.

And, the release added, "The kitchen is under the direction of Phillippe Corbet, a French-trained chef with several years of experience in Michelin-star rated restaurants as well as top tables throughout Long Island. Corbet most recently began working with MAH last season heading up the kitchen at Arbor in Montauk. The woodburning cuisine is the brainchild of Corbet, fulfilling a lifelong culinary dream to execute an entire menu from the flavor producing unique cooking style."

Offering lunch, dinner and a late night menu, Lulu Kitchen & Bar’s menu is focused on local fare.

Menu selections include seafood platters such as Montauk Pearl oysters, Topneck clams and tuna tartare, with appetizers such as crab spread with asparagus, avocado, diced smoked salmon, lemon zest, sour cream and wasabi tobiko served with grilled farm bread and pickled onions;grilled heirloom cauliflower with spicy Long Island grapes, toasted sesame, tahini and white balsamic vinaigrette and mint oil; and house meatballs with wood fired roasted tomato sauce and goat cheese risotto.

Also offered will be an array of wood fired pizzas and entrée selections including a signature wood oven cast iron market fish with roasted garlic, baby bok choy, pee wee potatoes and lemon juice; organic chicken with porcini rub, potato gratin, market vegetable and mustard jus; coal roasted vegetable pot au feu with seasonal vegetables and house broth, smoked aioli and spicy mustard; and grilled prawns with saffron rice and smoked ratatouille.

The menu also features weekly specials.

The beverage program at Lulu Kitchen & Bar will focus on a selection of wines from several countries.

Managing Director Steven Jauffrineau brings experience from the Manhattan French bistro La Goulue, Shelter Island's Sunset Beach and Montauk Asset Holding’s sister properties Duryea’s and Arbor.

“Lulu Kitchen & Bar is excited to offer the Sag Harbor community a new dining experience. We plan to embrace the local culture year round offering locally driven cuisine with friendly service,” Jauffrineau said.

Lulu Kitchen & Bar opens on Thursday, April 27. Hours are as follows: Monday through Saturday noon to 12 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sundays. A special late night menu will be offered every night from 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
