New York State will be holding a series of open house events, including one in Southampton, to discuss the impact and planning of offshore wind farms in the state.

In July, Gov. Andrew Cuomo approved two wind farms that would be located off Long Island's waters. One is set to be built about 14 miles south of Jones Beach, and the will be about 30 miles east of Montauk Point.

The New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is holding the open houses to discuss the plans. NYSERDA staff will be at the meetings to go over details about the projects, including the local impacts and economic opportunities.
