“I know my husband, Bill Von Essen who passed away at 82 on September 29, 2014, would want me to say that John was his best friend since they attended kindergarten through high school growing up together in Southampton and up until the day Bill passed. Bill said that John was his strength and a powerful force in his life. Whether John was playing football, fighting on the battlefield in Korea, picking the most wonderful wife Joyce, loving and living life to the fullest - Bill always said that John lived his life fearlessly. It’s hard to believe he is gone but maybe he wanted to join his old friend Bill. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
