Obituary: Kathryn Gilmartin Duggan died on Monday, March 16, at Southampton Hospital, surrounded by family. She was born on June 4, 1941 in Southampton to David H and Mary R. Gilmartin. Duggan attended the Sacred Heart of Mary Academy in Sag Harbor, graduating in 1959 then went on to study Sociology at Marymount College in Tarrytown. After graduating in 1963, she worked in the human resources department at NBC New York until 1967 and married William Duggan Jr. in August 1965. Duggan was a longtime parishioner at Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton, was a trustee of the church for 15 years, a Eucharistic minister for more than 25 years and a religious education teacher for 6 years. She was a founding member of Friends of the Rogers Memorial Library, a docent at the Parrish Art Museum, and a volunteer for community health seminars and fundraising events at the Southampton Hospital. She also was a board member for 8 years at East End Hospice and member of the Southampton Study Club for 35 years. Recently, Duggan was awarded the Gloria Gaines Memorial Award, the highest alumna honor, from Marymount College at Fordham University for exemplary service to one’s church, community, and the College. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, her two children, and her twin grandchildren (lovingly known as “Chaos” and “Mayhem”). In her free time she loved to golf, cook, bake, read and travel the world. Family members will remember her, for her faith, passion for life, sense of humor, grace, and especially for her devotion to friends and family. She was predeceased by her sisters Ruth Gilmartin Darby and Mary Gilmartin Steinbrecher. In addition to her husbande, she is survived by her daughter Ann G. Duggan, son William H. Duggan III, Frances J. Orabona and grandchildren Meredith and William; brother, David J. Gilmartin and wife Linda, Laura G. Masterson and husband William, Martin R. Gilmartin and wife Pamela; and 24 nieces and nephews.
