Online Retailer One Kings Lane To Open At Iconic Former Southampton Library Location

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — For the first time in its long history, a store will be coming to the iconic first home of the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton.

One Kings Lane, an online retailer of furniture and home decor, is set to open its first brick-and-mortar store this summer in Southampton at the historic former Rogers Memorial Library location at 11 Jobs Lane.

The building was also formerly used by the Parrish Art Museum until it was sold in 2012.

The new physical address, One Kings Lane said in a release, "will give shoppers access to a breadth of the brand’s assortment, complimentary design consultations with in-house interior designers, and unique retail entertainment throughout the summer. The new location will be open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

The seasonal shop marks the first time the 11 Jobs Lane space will open its doors to the public with a retail partner, the release said.

"Built in 1895, the two-story library was designed by R. H. Robertson, one of the foremost architects of the late 19th century. One Kings Lane’s transformation of the 3,500-square-foot ground-floor space will allow the community as well as shoppers to explore and enjoy the revitalization of this architectural treasure," the company stated.

"In designing the layout of the space, One Kings Lane aimed to elevate the traditional retail format by creating an immersive lifestyle experience, showcasing product in a realistic and livable but also surprising setting. One Kings Lane Southampton will feature a curated range of product that visitors can shop in-store and online, including exclusive furnishings and the one-of-a-kind vintage pieces that shoppers have come to love and expect from the brand," the release added.

Another key feature of the store will be the company's in-house design service, The Studio at One Kings Lane, which will let customers book one-on-one appointments online for interior design services, and be matched with a designer, the company said.

The space will also be used for "collaborative partnerships, interactive events, and designer pop-ups to engage the local community and Southampton visitors, the release stated.

“Opening our first street-level physical retail location is a major step for One Kings Lane in our mission to help our customers live their personal style, and we are thrilled to be able to do so in such an iconic summer destination,” said Debbie Propst, president of One Kings Lane.

“As we are always looking to push the boundaries of traditional retail, partnering with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail to occupy the historic 11 Jobs Lane space felt like the perfect fit and will undoubtedly be a terrific way to engage the local community and be an organic, local resource for home and design," she added.

The building has a long history in the heart of Southampton. According to the Rogers Memorial Library website, Rogers Memorial Library was founded in 1893 after a bequest made by Harriet Jones Rogers, who died in 1892.

The Victorian Gothic building opened to the public in March, 1896, had a hall that could hold 250 people, the capacity for 20,000 books, and an upstairs apartment for the caretaker, the site said.

The Library remained in the original Jobs Lane location until 2000, when the new Rogers Memorial Library opened on Coopers Farm Road, the library's site explains.
