Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle On LI

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene after the crash, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on County Road 39 Saturday night has died, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 6:14 p.m. in the westbound lane of County Road 39.

Southampton Town police officers and New York State Police responded to the scene. Officers performed CPR on the pedestrian, who was transported by Southampton Ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene; the identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

According to Chris Brenner, public information officer for the Southampton Fire Department, County Road 39 was closed after the crash from Greenfield Road to St. Andrews Road West.

No criminality is currently suspected, police said.
