Pierson High School Students On Track To Earn International Diploma After 'College-Level Rigor' Courses

Congratulations to these star students!

SAG HARBOR, NY —A group of star students is set to earn an advanced level diploma when they graduate Pierson High School in the spring.

The Sag Harbor School District announced Friday in a release that six members of Pierson High School’s Class of 2017 are on track to earn an International Baccalaureate Diploma at the conclusion of the school year.

This year’s IB diploma candidates — Eve Bishop, Kimberly Hardy, Alex Kamper, Ella Parker, Isabel Peters and Aris Witty — headed on the path to the college level diploma when they were just juniors "taking a full load of three higher level and three standard level IB courses, also completing coursework in theory of knowledge, an original, college-level research paper, and satisfied requirements for creative, active and service-oriented engagement with their community," the release said.

"The IB coursework presents students with college-level rigor and requires well-developed, critical thinking skills and refined writing practices. Each course features assignments and a summative exam that are graded by external examiners against high international standards," the release said.

Currently, 19 juniors, or 31 percent of the Class of 2018, are hard at work toward earning their own IB diplomas.
