Police 'Actively Investigating' Hit-And-Run Fatality In Hamptons
A deliveryman was struck and left dead on County Road 39 in Southampton, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Police are "actively investigating" a hit-and-run in Southampton last week that left a deliveryman dead on County Road 39.
According to Southampton Town Police Lt. Susan Ralph, the investigation has determined that Joseph Lynn McAlla, 63, from Clifford, PA, was definitely struck by a vehicle and had not been on the road for a great length of time before he was found.
Authorities are "actively investigating" the incident, Ralph said.

According to Southampton Town Police, McAlla was making a delivery to Southampton Masonry on Thursday at 2:30 a.m. when he apparently exited his vehicle and was struck and killed by the driver who left the scene, police said.
Southampton Town Police responded to reports of the man lying dead in the roadway on County Road 39.

County Road 39 was closed in both directions from Tuckahoe Road to Shrubland Road for hours sparking lengthy traffic delays, police said.
Southampton Town Police's detective division responded and initiated the investigation into the cause of the accident, police said. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the accident and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Southampton Town Police Department's detective division at 631-702-2230.
