Police Bring Smiles To Local Kids As They Help Shop For Back-To-School

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — An annual event brought smiles and lifted worries from the shoulders of parents struggling to make ends meets as police officers joined forces to provide local children with back-to-school supplies.

According to Southampton Town Police, on Thursday, Aug. 11, Southampton Town Police teamed up with the Westhampton Beach Police Department, New York state troopers, and the Southampton Town Police Explorers for the annual “Shop with a Cop” event sponsored by Walmart.

"The event was an outstanding success, helping children and families from Southampton Town prepare for back to school," police said.

Officers shared dinner with the families before going shopping. Walmart in Riverhead provided a "significant donation," along with donations from the Southampton Town Superior Officers Association, Southampton Town Policeman’s Benevolent Association, and Hugs, Inc, which provided also funds for the event, police said.

"We especially want to thank Walmart and their employees, who were so welcoming and assisted us in this beautiful event," police said.
